The Buddha said that there is the unborn, the unconditioned, the non-created. What is unborn acts on our consciousness but nothing acts on the unborn. The unborn is free of determinism and if it acts on us, it is obvious that our actions are not all caused by an infinite chain of mechanical causes. Our consciousness is aware of the unborn, the unborn is present in meditation, it is free of determinism.
